J.S.BACH. CHRISTMAS ORATORIO (EXCERPTS) | EUROPEAN CHRISTMAS
The Christmas Oratorio by Johann Sebastian Bach has become an integral part of Christmas celebration in European concert halls and cathedrals, like the Easter would seem false without the concert performances of his passions. Although the story of Jesus being born is still the same and the Oratorio is rather well-known too, the monumental opus by Bach fills the heart and mind with joyful peace and sparkling rejoicing again and again. Bach wrote the Oratorio during Christmas time of 1734 and intended it to be performed in six nights – from Christmas to Epiphany. Composer never heard his opus performed in a single concert; still the fragments of the Oratorio in arrangement of conductor Kaspars Putniņš will give you a chance to experience both the story of Christ’s birth and the unique charm of Bach’s music.
