Over a regular concert season we offer ten concerts at the Great Guild Hall, all included in the subscription ticket; we perform at the largest regional concert halls of Latvia - in Rēzekne, Liepāja, Ventspils, Cēsis; we take part in popular and cherished music festivals, present chamber music programmes, and work in the recording studio. We bring the name of Riga and Latvia to the most prominent concert stages beyond our borders. And we also bring in outstanding Latvian and foreign soloists, concertmasters and conductors to collaborate on our concert programmes - not necessarily the names already familiar to Latvian public. Quality is our principal concern: we strive to give the audiences the best possible interpretation of each particular musical work, in order to show that music is primarily an art, not just one type of entertainment among many others. But what is Sinfonietta Rīga, truly? To answer this deceivingly simple question, we invited four professional academic musicians to share their thoughts: the founder and artistic director of Sinfonietta Riga, Normunds Šnē, organist Iveta Apkalna, clarinetist, composer and conductor Jörg Widmann, and conductor Paavo Järvi.
