Sinfonietta Riga concludes cooperation with composer of Swedish residency program Lei Feng Johansson

Continuing to implement a consistent support of New music, this Fall Sinfonietta Riga coloborated under residency program with swedish composer from Gothenburg Lei Feng Johansson. Nearly two months our Swedish colleague stayed both in Riga and Kuldiga, working on a new piece for chamber orchestra, which first sketches were tested in two rehearsals in the Spikeri concert hall, conducted bu Artūrs Gailis.

In November 11, orchestra's artistic director Normunds Šnē thanked her for the creative collaboration  during two months and expressed hope to receive sheet music of new work in it's  final version as soon as possible to incorporate iot in orchestra's programm.

 

Pianist and composer Lei Feng Johansson was born in China. Lei studied composition at the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing and the Academy of Music and Drama in Gothenburg, Sweden, where she got her postgraduate Diploma in composition 2004. Since 1988, Lei have composed more than 40 compositions, from solo instruments to symphony orchestra and opera. Lei’s music is based on western modern music and traditional chinese folk music. Her music has been played in many countries in Europe and Asia. Lei moved to Gothenburg, Sweden in 1999 and now works as a freelance composer and pianist. Since 2012, she has started a New Music Festival in Gothenburg.
