Sinfonietta Rīga and Jörg Widmann presents the jewels of German Romanticism

On Friday, March 10, at the Great Guild Hall, Sinfonietta Rīga will welcome one of the most celebrated European musicians of our times – the charismatic clarinettist, conductor and composer Jörg Widmann, who will perform together with the chamber orchestra in the concert “Mendelssohn, Widmann and Weber”. The concert includes the greatest opuses from the masters of the early German Romanticism – Carl Maria von Weber and Felix Mendelssohn, as well as a 21st century composition, Jörg Widmann's series of musical novelettes Freie Stücke.

Sinfonietta Rīga and Latvian Radio Choir in a resounding performance at the Elbphilharmonie

On Thursday, February 9, the State Chamber Orchestra Sinfonietta Rīga and Latvian Radio Choir, led by conductor Sigvards Kļava, will open the “Lux Aeterna” festival at the Great Hall of Elbphilharmonie. The opening concert of the festival, which is dedicated to works that revolve around spirituality and transcendence, presents German audiences an opportunity to enjoy the best sacred music works of the world-renowned Estonian composer Arvo Pärt.

Sinfonietta Rīga performs at the prestigious Storioni Festival in the Netherlands

On Saturday, January 21, Sinfonietta Rīga will perform at the Concertgebouw Eindhoven (Netherlands), for the first time participating in the Storioni's Grand Parade – a marathon concert of the prestigious chamber music festival Storioni Festival. The event showcases a number of internationally renowned musicians on several stages of the Concertgebouw Eindhoven all in one evening. Sinfonietta Rīga will join the festival's founders – Dutch chamber music ensemble Storioni Trio – to première Shade, the new piece by the American post-minimalist icon David Lang.

Orchestra

Since the foundation of the orchestra in 2006, Normunds Šnē is its Artistic Director and Chief Conductor. The musicians of Sinfonietta Rīga are young and open to creative challenge – studying the traditions of Baroque music performance and the nuances of the interpretation of Classical music; they are brilliant performers of the contemporary music.
