JOHANN SEBASTIAN BACH. WITH A GAZE TOWARDS HEAVENS
Already for the fourth time, the chamber orchestra Sinfonietta Rīga is meeting with one of today’s most prominent historical keyboards artist – Kristian Bezuidenhout. Elegantly maneuvering between the repertoires of the fortepiano and harpsichord, he regularly collaborates with the world's most renowned interpreters of early music, including conductors John Eliot Gardiner, Philippe Herreweghe, Trevor Pinnock, cellists Jean-Guihen Queyras and Sol Gabetta, as well as violinist Isabelle Faust. Kristian has always presented the listeners of Riga the rarities of concert halls, and this occasion will be no exception either – the German Baroque will shine through the orchestra overtures of Johann Bernhard Bach and Philipp Heinrich Erlebach with small strokes towards the French and Italian music world. The collection of rarities will be complemented by the faith-permeated church cantatas of Johann Sebastian Bach. Here Bezuidenhout perceives the composer as a true cosmopolitan and deliberate violator of the rules. He is definitely not an isolated genius, but a master who is well aware of the importance of his work.
After the performance, we will welcome Kristian Bezuidenhout to our continuing series "Conversations after the Concert", moderated by journalist Jegors Jerohomovičs.
