Artūrs Gailis

Viola

Artūrs Gailis is a violist and conductor. He received a bachelor's degree in viola performance in 2010 from Jāzeps Vītols Latvian Academy of Music (prof. Arigo Štrāls) and master's degree in 2012 from Lithuanian Academy of Music (prof. Petras Radzevičius). Enthusiast of chamber music, award winner of several competitions, musician of Sinfonietta Rīga String Quartet. From 2011 to 2015 he worked in chamber orchestra Sinfonietta Rīga and from 2014 in the orchestra of The Latvian National Opera and Ballet. He has also played in projects of Latvian National Symphony Orchestra, Latvian Festival Orchestra, Pärnu Festival Orchestra, Nordic Symphony Orchestra and many others. Currently, Artūrs is a principal violist in chamber orchestra Sinfonietta Rīga. Artūrs received a bachelor's degree in symphony orchestra conducting in 2017 and master's degree in 2019 from Jāzeps Vītols Latvian Academy of Music under prof. Viesturs Gailis. In 2015 he frequently assisted the rehearsals of maestro Paavo Järvi and has participated in conducting masterclasses of him as well of maestros Neeme Järvi, Kristjan Järvi, Leonid Grin, Lutz Köhler, Paul Mägi. Since 2019 Artūrs is a docent in Opera Singing Class of Jāzeps Vītols Latvian Academy of Music. He has conducted Latvian National Symphony Orchestra, State Chamber Orchestra Sinfonietta Rīga, Latvian National Opera Orchestra, Baltic Academy Orchestra, Philips Symphony Orchestra, Vidzeme Chamber Orchestra and others. Besides classical repertoire, Artūrs Gailis is an experienced performer of contemporary music. He has conducted numerous pieces of his contemporaries and has premiered pieces by composers Anna Ķirse, Krists Auznieks, Līva Blūma, Margarita Gapčenko and Aigars Raumanis. Artūrs is an enthusiastic supporter of appearances by young composers.
