SUPPORT THE ORCHESTRA IN BIG AND SMALL PROJECTS

AND WE WILL SUPPORT YOU

WHAT HAVE WE ACHIEVED UNTIL NOW?

We have spent ten years concerting around, and Sinfonietta Rīga has become an integral part of Latvian professional music life. Now the bold and innovative musical programs of Sinfonietta Rīga are a brand easily recognisable by the freedom of performance and juvenile ardour.

This has been appraised by the local and foreign experts: Sinfonietta Rīga have received the Latvian Grand Music Award, the Cabinet of Ministers Award and one of the most prestigious awards in the sphere of music – their own Grammy.

NORMUNDS ŠNĒ ON THE ORCHESTRA

Normunds Šnē, Artistic Director of the Chamber Orchestra Sinfonietta Rīga, says: “In ten years, since the orchestra was founded, much has been done; still there are things yet to be done in Latvia. Firstly, we need to support contemporary music that is an integral part of the creative life of our orchestra. Secondly, there are still a plenty of places in Latvia where the performance of academic music is unavailable, including entire regions, schools and other public establishments. Thirdly, high-quality musical instruments are necessary to provide decent orchestral performance.”

WHY THE SUPPORT IS SO IMPORTANT FOR US?

The support of the government and responsive audience is the basis and incentive for Sinfonietta Rīga to reach for ever more ambitious goals in artistic performance. In the process of our professional and musical perfection, the support of companies, foundations and private benefactors is also very significant. The financial aid of this kind provides a chance for the orchestra to work with world-famous guest musicians and run ambitious international projects.

THE SINFONIETTA RĪGA FOUNDATION

Growing awareness of artistic value of the orchestra and public acclaim led to the idea of the Sinfonietta Rīga Foundation (SRF) – it was started in 2008 to attract potential supporters. SRF was set up by Normunds Šnē, Artistic Director of the orchestra, composers Pēteris Vasks and Arturs Maskats, violoncellist Kristīne Blaumane, publicist Pauls Raudseps and art scholar Ramona Umblija. The most important and uppermost goal of SRF was – and still is – to promote the public and professional image of the chamber orchestra and draw ever more strategic partners in implementation of its artistic plans.

WHAT IS GOING TO BE SUPPORTED?

Together with the Sinfonietta Rīga Foundation, four special-purpose programmes have been established to promote and support the artistic development of the chamber orchestra maintaining its leading position on Latvian professional musical scene, contributing to Latvian professional musical life and making the cultural supply in Latvia more available for public.

FOUR SPECIAL-PURPOSE PROGRAMMES

The special-purpose programmes are as follows:

  • Cooperation of Sinfonietta Rīga with outstanding guest musicians

SRF supports involvement of internationally acclaimed guest musicians in Sinfonietta Rīga concert programmes, thus ensuring the process of professional development of the orchestra and exchange of creative ideas on international scale; as well as providing an opportunity of contributing to the local musical environment by implementing innovative concert programmes performed to the highest professional standards.

  • Promotion of contemporary music at Latvian concert halls

SRF supports and promotes Sinfonietta Rīga commitment to include the works by Latvian and foreign composers of 20th/21st century in its repertoire regularly in order to implement novel projects and promote the development of musical culture among the general public.

  • Improvement of music availability and general knowledge of music in Latvia

Together with the musicians of Sinfonietta Rīga, SRF carries out systematic and purposeful work to broaden the interest of general public in the wide-ranging field of academic music, highlighting the importance of consistent concert life in the regions of Latvia and developing educational music programmes for schools and social care institutions.

  • Acquisition and restoration of musical instruments

In order to ensure the orchestra’s permanently high performance standards and quality, SRF is ready to help in acquisition of new musical instruments and restoration of the existing ones in keeping with the highest technical standards.
